Simply Chamorro: Homemade Tortillas

Bookmark and Share

(July 27, 2008)—My mom loves eating homemade tortillas with our finadene dishes. She's always been meticulous in the kitchen, both with flavor and¬†presentation.

To make them, she starts by mixing water with a high-quality Masa found in any grocery store. After that, it just takes a few steps to create a slightly crispy, mildly browned tortilla like what you see above.

How my Mom makes tortillas:

1) Use your hands to press about a handful of Masa dough on wax paper.

2) Place another sheet of wax paper on top of the dough and roll it flat.

3) Remove upper wax paper and press a a medium-size saucepan lid to create a perfectly round slice of tortilla dough.

4) Peel away the excess dough and voila!

5) You can now place the tortilla dough on a non-stick pan heating over a medium flame. No oil necessary.
