(Sept. 4, 2008)— In the northern part of Orange County, bordering Los Angeles County suburbs, is a quiet, family-oriented bedroom community known as the City of La Habra. The area is special to me because I grew up not too far from there.

In the time that's passed, I've seen many businesses come and go, with some family-owned establishments still standing. Old shopping malls have been replaced with movie theater meccas and strip malls, while undeveloped land has turned into golf-course housing associations. Then there are businesses that remain, but have undergone new ownership. Pizza Club La Habra is one of them.

Bought by Mark and Tammy Perez four years ago, the space occupying 1279 E. La Habra Blvd. continues as a down-home, family-friendly pizza joint, with even more activities and good grub for the local community. When I visited for lunch, the restaurant hosted a summer-school pizza outing for St. Mark's Elementary School (where I attended by the way for three years as a child).

Even healthy eaters can savor a variety of salads (or a carnivore, more gluttonous version such as the antipasto salad above), while those not in the mood for a yummy cheesy pie can enjoy pasta dishes, broasted chicken or appetizers that include mozzarella sticks, mushrooms and zucchini.

Children (and big kids) can enjoy a wide-open space for playing pinball and video games while sports lovers enjoy ample TV screens for watching big games. For this, it's all about the beer and wine menu with occassional specials on bottles and pitchers.

Now that NFL season is starting, you can enjoy the big games in their festive and warm environment. Click here to see their calendar.

Right now through Oct. 31, 2008, you can qualify to win a gift certificate for housekeeping service if you order online. If you live in the area, click here to do that!
