OFF THE PLATE: NOVEMBER 2008
(Nov. 4, 2008)—MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.—SKECHERS USA, Inc., a global leader in lifestyle footwear, announced today the opening of its high-profile flagship store off of Powell and Market Streets in San Francisco's Union Square. Boasting a three-floor, 7,500 square-feet, location, the new SKECHERS location is the company's largest concept store, featuring 800 unique shoe styles and enough space to house 20,000 units of footwear and apparel.
With cable cars clinging and a business and leisure crowd bustling, the new location reflects the company's hip brand and the Art Deco architecture of the 1933-building it occupies. Modern curved fixtures are enhanced by 12-foot by 4-foot LED screens, plasma monitors, thermo clear panels on the, and—get this—a three-dimensional super block wall made from Styrofoam and plaster. SKECHERS also restored the original green terra cotta tiles and copper pipes on the upper exterior walls surrounding 18-foot bay windows and the original black granite at the street level, the company reported today.
Shoe shopping in the already shopper's Heaven will never be the same. “Our new Powell Street flagship store has everything we require in a retail location and more,” says Michael Greenberg, SKECHERS president. "It is in one of the premier tourist and shopping locations in San Francisco with tens of millions of visitors annually. It is in an unbelievably beautiful building that both reflects the brand's image and furthers its reputation. The consumers that shop for our footwear and apparel in this store will be in for an incredible experience."
The new SKECHERS location resides at 200 Powell Street, just a block away from the venerable Macy's location. One level features men’s and women's footwear and a second level featuring children’s footwear and SKECHERS men’s and women's clothing.
SKECHERS retail stores are considered to be popular tourist attractions worldwide, with flagship stores in New York's Times Square, Los Angeles' Hollywood & Highland and Universal City Walk, Toronto, Lonodon, Paris and Shanghai. SKECHERS owns and operates more than 215 retail stores in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
