OFF THE PLATE: OCTOBER 2008
(Oct. 22, 2008)—OAKLAND, Calif.—After his 57-yard field goal on Sunday, Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski (11) has been named one of the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for games played on Oct. 19 - 20 of the 2008 season, says the NFL.
New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel and Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs shared the honor with Janikowski for week 7 of the regular season.
Janikowski's field-goal helped the Raiders win the game 16-13 against the New York Jets with 2:30 left in overtime and was the longest overtime field goal in NFL history. In addition to helping Tom Cable enjoy his first win as the Raiders head coach and Oakland's first home win of the season, Jano's field goal surpassed the previous OT record: 53 yards on Oct. 14, 1996 by Packers' kicker Chris Jacke.
Jano's latest three-pointer brings his all-time point score to 855—just eight points behind Pro Football Hall of Famer George Blanda, the Raiders' all-time leading scorer.
